A new classroom building for a kindergarten at Pangaimotu in Vava'u, was handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, HE Mr Inagaki Hisao, on 24 April 2024.
The Government Middle School Pangaimotu was established in the 1970's. The kindergarten class began last year in 2023 and the PTA sough Japan’s GGP assistance to develop it.
The new kindergarten classroom will benefit young pupils from Pangaimotu's neighbouring villages including 'Utungake, Talihau and 'Utulei.
"I believe that education is the foundation for a bright future for everyone. It is our social responsibility to provide a quality education for children of all ages," said Mr Inagaki.
This GGP assistance was formalized last year in August, with a grant amount of USD$72,000 for the construction of a new classroom building for Pangaimotu Kindergarten, located at the GMS Pangaimotu.
The new building also included a storage room and an office space.

“GGP is like the Tongan proverb saying, small but visible –even though the grant amount might be small, the assistance it provides is very significant. In that case GGP is very popular in all villages around Tonga,” Mr Inagaki said.
He asked the school and community of Pangaimotu to maintain the same level of commitment to the maintenance of the newly constructed building.
