Dolly To Leave Chiefs As New Coach Looms?
Kaizer Chiefs are said to be considering the exit of Keagan Dolly as they look to restructure the club and technical team in the off-season.
Dolly, who has served as club captain at times this season, was set to open talks over a new contract before his injury shelved discussions, with a mutual understanding that it would take place at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
As one of the highest-paid players at the club, early discussions have been lowered terms, as was the case with Khama Billiat, who eventually parted ways without a response to the renewal at Amakhosi before resurfacing in Zimbabwe with Yadah FC.
Interim head coach Cavin Johnson refused to entertain the early suggestions that Dolly may be parting ways at the end of the season.
“That’s a blunt question to ask me at this time of the [season] only because Keagan has been out [injured], and Keagan is out injured now at the moment,” Johnson responded to iDiski Times when asked if he’d advise Chiefs to keep him.
“If I said this and that, it looks very much like I haven’t given much for Keagan to say, but I think we have to leave that for the end of the season.”
The 31-year-old is likely to part ways if no agreement is made – as Chiefs look to increase their wage budget for a new look technical staff with their new head coach for the 2024/25 campaign.
