Microsoft starts testing AI function in Notepad
Microsoft has begun testing an AI-powered Rewrite feature in Notepad, a simple text editor that comes built into Windows.

In early 2024, it became known that Microsoft was working on a new AI-based feature for Notepad, a simple text editor built into Windows. The company has now started testing it, but only in a few countries and among members of the Windows Insider program.

The Rewrite feature allows users to rewrite sentences, change their tone, and make them longer or shorter. The feature can be accessed by selecting the text and right-clicking, or by using a separate button on the toolbar or by pressing Ctrl + I.

The new feature in Notepad is currently available to all Windows Insider members in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and Germany. Rewrite is also available in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan for Microsoft 365 Personal subscribers.

Earlier this year, Notepad finally got a built-in spell checker, just 41 years after its release.
