The Australian Airports Association has warned the ACCC that passengers will lose a crucial route to Europe if the Qatar-Virgin tie-up is approved in the proposed format.
The peak body representing big airports has thrown its weight behind Virgin Australia’s plans to co-opt Qatar Airways’ planes but says the tie-up should not be at the expense of existing code-share arrangements with Singapore Airlines.
Australian Airports Association chief executive Simon Westaway said the body’s members support the proposed alliance but noted “concerns about restrictions placed on Virgin Australia” in its submission to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s review.
