Abbott locked in ahead of blockbuster KFC BBL|13 Final
The league’s all-time leading wicket-taker completes a huge week of re-signings for the Sydney Sixers, with Sean Abbott set to extend his time in pink until at least the end of the BBL|15 season. Celebrating his 100th appearance for the club earlier this summer, the fan favourite will be looking to add a third trophy to his silverware collection on Wednesday night, to join back-to-back titles from BBL|09 and BBL|10. The Sixers will host the Brisbane Heat in the blockbuster KFC BBL|13 Final tomorrow night at the SCG, with an expected record-breaking crowd at their home fortress. Beginning his Big Bash career across town, Abbott spent two seasons with Sydney Thunder before swapping lime for pink, joining the Sixers in BBL|03. One of the competition’s most threatening bowlers, the right-arm quick currently leads the league for wickets taken with 161 scalps (including best figures of 5-16) to his name. Topping the list for most wickets taken in a single season on two occasions (BBL|06 and BBL|12), Abbott has remained one of the most consistent performers across his decade in the league. Head of Sydney Sixers, Rachael Haynes said securing the star capped off an exciting week of extension announcements for the club. “Securing Sean for the next two years is a huge win for the club. He has been one of the best players in the competition over a number of years and is such an important part of our group. “We feel really well-placed heading into the last game of the season, having the likes of Sean, Jack Edwards, Todd Murphy, Josh Philippe and Ben Dwarshuis all locked away for the next few years. “The club couldn’t be more excited to be hosting tonight's Final and we’re hoping to see our members and fans fill the SCG to watch us bring the trophy home for them.” TICKET UPDATE! The final allocation of tickets to the KFC BBL|13 Final have almost been exhausted with a sell-out expected to be confirmed today. The BBL|13 Final is set to be the highest attended finals game at the SCG, with the BBL|10 Final crowd of 25,295 holding the record currently. The match could also be the second SCG sellout for the KFC BBL|13 season, with 41,027 fans turning up to watch the Sydney Sixers take on the Sydney Thunder earlier this season. The KFC BBL|13 Final will be broadcast on Channel 7, Foxtel, Kayo and SEN.
