The manufacturing defect causes signal interference within the brake system's electronics, meaning a higher pedal force may be needed for braking.
BMW Australia said although the vehicle remains controllable, the vehicle's braking distance may be extended, increasing the risk of an accident.
The vehicle's anti-lock braking system and dynamic stability control will also not be available.
The recall affects the following models released between 2022 and 2023: 520i, 740i, i5, i7, iX1, X1, X5, X6, X7 and XM.
Drivers that see a message on the central display should contact their BMW dealer.
