Kiwi Ryan Fox may have let his maiden PGA Tour victory slip through his fingers, after a dramatic eight-shot turnaround saw him fall from the Canadian Open lead on the third round.

Enetering the final day at Hamilton, Ontario, Fox sits in a threeway tie for second, four shots behind Scot Robert MacIntyre, after carding an even-par 70, but will rue a day that started in fine fashion, as he picked up four shots over the first five holes.

He and MacIntyre shared the overnight lead at 10 under, but Fox pounced early, with a birdy at the second, eagle at the fourth and birdy at the fifth, to open up a four-stroke advantage, as his rival stumbled to three bogeys on the front nine.

Suddenly, their fortunes completely switched, with Fox dropping a shot at the eighth and three more on the run home, while MacIntyre finished his round birdy-birdy-birdy-eagle-par for 66.

Fox shares his position with American Ben Griffin and Canadian Mackenzie Hughes, while Englishman Tommy Fleetwod (64) shot the low round of the day to sit another shot back, tied for fifth.

In his debut season on the North American circuit, Fox, 37, has managed two fourth-place finishes at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans - a team event - and Myrtle Beach Classic, while missing six of 14 cuts.
