Irish artist Beano grabs his chance with new EP ‘Trap #7’.
The hip-hop artist is a key part of Dublin’s underground music scene, working with some of Ireland’s most in-demand exports. His own music is well worth seeking out – a truth-teller who wants to work in his own lane, Beano offers something different.
Take his new EP. Out now, ‘Trap #7’ recalls Buffalo hero Benny The Butcher, while also channelling some voices from this side of the Atlantic – think Fliptrix and you’d be close.
Working with No Venom on sole production duties, the pair worked organically to bring Beano’s vision to reality.
The Dublin-based rapper says the EP came about “very organically” with the lyrics moving from the streets of his home city to the hills of Morocco, and back again.
Beano comments…
Sonically, the project is cohesive and that comes from both myself and No Venom, the lyrical content is personal and some of my best to date – crafting stories and concepts while pulling on influences from both the present day and my childhood.
Tracks such as ‘TOUBKAL’ were written on a flight home from Morocco – as I reminisced on my time there hiking, and my journey to the summit of Toubkal (Morocco’s highest peak) while other tracks such as the title track ‘TRAP #7’ came from childhood memories of going to see The Mighty Celt with my father, which is a movie about greyhound racing and where my love for dogs began. This influence can be seen right through the EP, lyrically and even visually via the project’s cover art.
An engrossing glimpse into his artistry, you can tune in now.
