Khanye On Chiefs' New Coach Search, Makes Pitso Claim
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye insists that his former club needs to call Pitso Mosimane and appoint him as the head coach instead of holding interviews.
Chiefs have already confirmed that interim coach Cavin Johnson will not be returning to the hot seat next season and, while they are understood to work through a shortlist of names, Khanye believes that the interviews are not the right way to go about, if the club is serious about rebuilding.
Amakhosi have endured a dry spell in terms silverware for nine seasons and their 2-1 over SuperSport United was just their second win in 2024, but it put them back in eighth position on the DStv Premiership log with 33 points.
Khanye says Chiefs should appoint the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach and let Johnson work with him like they did in Egypt.
“They are not solving anything with those interviews,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“Why are you holding interviews as Kaizer Chiefs? Because we know people want you more than you do them mostly, the best coaches. If you are serious just simply appoint a coach and tell him to bring his technical team.
“Appoint Pitso Mosimane, leave Cavin Johnson, let Pitso also bring his technical team and give him a budget. A lot of players will not survive.
“They need a high-profile coach who won’t be scared of them [management], someone who can even tell them he needs time, maybe three seasons to fix things.
“The first season is for fixing what’s wrong, the second season we must start to see some differences, the third one start bringing something [trophies]and the fourth one sustainability.”
