The film focuses on some interesting ideas about a world that is on the brink of something that could jeopardize everything should it get out of the gorge that is at the center of the story in the latest Apple TV+ show that offers a little something for everyone. There's action for fans of that genre. The Gorge is essentially a play in three acts. There is the introduction of the heroes in Miles Teller's Levi and Anya Taylor-Joy's Drasa. The two are talented snipers from different sides of the world who monitor different sides of the titular divot in the earth's crust. The second act is the pair first just doing their jobs before curiosity about the person on the other side of the gorge gets the better of both of them and they eventually enter into a romantic relationship; and the third act is Drasa and Levi discovering the truth of The Gorge and finding a way to do something about it.

Anya Taylor-Joy Almost Took A Disney Pilot Instead Of The Witch
Anya Taylor-Joy's career might have been different had she chosen a Disney pilot instead of signing on to Robert Eggers' The Witch.
What Happens In The Gorge?
After the aforementioned Drasa and Levi are hired by an organization that is charged with guarding the gorge, the pair soon find that they are the only people who are standing between the rest of the world and this area that holds in what are referred to as Hollow Men. Levi is told by the man he's replacing that he'll be stuck there for an entire year and he's also brought up to speed on all the weapons that are in place to keep the things that can be heard screaming at night when everything else is quiet.
However, after Levi's predecessor hooks up with representatives of the group that's hired everyone, he's executed, showing that the group is taking no chances about the story of The Gorge getting out to the rest of the world.
Soon Levi is on his own, having been told that under no circumstances is he - the person guarding the West tower - ever to make contact with the person guarding the East tower. While he starts off abiding by this order, that all comes crashing down after Drasa celebrates her birthday and decides she wants to talk to the only other person within hundreds of miles from her.

The pair soon decide that they want to be more than friends after exchanging notes using their long-range binoculars and fighting to take out the monsters that climb the walls of the gorge every so often. Levi ziplines over to Drasa and the East tower for a date and they hit it off as well as one can expect.
However, after a perfect date, disaster strikes when Levi is ziplining back to his side of the divide as the Hollow Men are trying another incursion, setting off automated mines that cut the zipline and sends Teller's character into the area they've already been told is a place no one ever returns from.

Taylor-Joy's character reacts on instinct and parachutes into the gorge to save Levi and the two end up deciding they need to fight their way back out, knowing there has to be a way in and out that doesn't require them to climb since there was once whole battalions of cavalry sent in. While they fight through creatures and Hollow Men, the two guards find the answer to what the gorge really is and why they're there.
A company called Dark Lake has been doing genetic testing on a chemical compound they created that mutates everything it touches. While dealing with the potential that they might have been infected, Levi and Drasa also decide they need to figure out a way to stop Dark Lake from continuing their experiments.
How Does The Gorge End?

Dark Lake soon realizes that Drasa and Levi went into the gorge, and the woman who hired them both (Sigourney Weaver) takes a strike team to kill the two guards and regain control of the situation. However the two military veterans and snipers for hire knew the company would come to take them out and have rigged up explosives around the failsafe security.
After the company tried to kill Levi, he and Drasa use their sniper abilities to set off the explosives from afar, which also begins the count down to set off the nuclear bomb hidden inside the gorge just in case everything needs to be wiped out all at once. The bomb goes off, getting rid of the Hollow Men and the chemical that caused them. The explosion also catches Weaver's Bartholomew and her crew and kills them, taking out the only people who knew that either Teller or Taylor-Joy's characters were there.
The end of the movie shows both mercenaries manage to find each other at a restaurant, following the plan that Levi laid out for them in a note, should they both survive. In doing so, The Gorge manages to wrap up all the action with a true Valentines romance story conclusion.
