Aggies Defeat UCI for a Big West Win

The short story: UC Davis women's tennis triumphed 4-3 over UC Irvine in a thrilling match, showcasing a dominating performance that included a decisive doubles point victory followed by three crucial singles points to seal the win. 

COURTSIDE 

• The Aggies took the early lead, grabbing the doubles point.  

• Daisy Maunupau and Mika Ikemori won their doubles match. 

• Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe won their doubles match. 

• Sophomore Ikemori also won her singles match. 

• Junior Maya Youssef won her singles match. 

• Junior Wolfe also won her singles match.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Aggies opened up the morning with doubles where Galerkin and Wolfe finished first taking down their Anteater opponents in a dominating match leaving the other pair scoreless in the match. 

• Next to finish was the pair of Maunupau and Ikemori who also grabbed a win and clinched the doubles point for the Aggies making the score 1-0. 

• Last to finish in doubles were Solia Valentine and Polina Marakhtanova who were unsuccessful in their match against the Anteaters. 

• First to finish in singles was Youssef who took down her opponent in two dominating sets making the score 2-0. 

• Next to finish was junior Wolfe who took the #4 spot over from Marakhtanova for today's match. Wolfe lost her match to her Anteater opponent in two sets making the score 2-1. 

• Ikemori would finish third, beating her opponent in two dominating sets giving the Aggies a more prominent lead against the Anteaters. 

• Next to finish was Valentine, who took her match to three hard sets but ultimately couldn't fend off her opponent. 

• Second to last would be senior Maunupau. She took her match to three thrilling sets and two tiebreakers before falling to her opponent. 

• With the score tied at 3-3 it was all up to freshman Penelope Wong to clinch the match. She took her match to three thrilling sets and a tiebreaker before ultimately coming out on top and winning the dual match for UC Davis.
